Etchings 2020 Experimental Opera Program

The Etchings Festival welcomes Laine Rettmer as Guest Faculty Artist to spearhead our experimental opera workshop.

Composers, directors, librettists, poets, vocalists and actors may apply in teams or individually. Those fellows applying individually will work in rotations of teams throughout the festival.

Composers in the experimental workshop program or the chamber music program will have opportunities to work with the composer faculty of the Composers’ Chamber Music Program.

Fellows admitted to this program will share work with Director Laine Rettmer before the festival so that they may have one preparatory month to build on their project or concept before the festival. Fellows will be encouraged to share short scenes or concepts that will benefit from draft work, revision and workshop performances.

Once at Etchings, fellows will work daily with Rettmer alongside faculty vocalists Nina Guo and Tyler Boque. Sessions will include daily critiques, improvisations, and workshop development methods that will result in workshop and festival performances. Audio / Video documentation of works-in-process will be made. As time allows, experimental opera workshop fellows will be able to participate in chamber music fellow activities.

Tuition, Housing, Meals: $1350
