Dear Ecce supporters, patrons and audience members,
The past few months have seen us all in uncharted waters. The COVID-19 pandemic has been the most severe life-altering event of our generation. Whether directly or indirectly, it is affecting every aspect of our lives. Similarly, the current protests over the need to eradicate white supremacy, intervene in acts of violence against Black communities, and to create space for Black imagination and innovation, have also reshaped the way we think about our own contributions and responsibilities toward social change.
Ecce has been listening and we intend to move forward in a socially responsible way that contributes to positive change and the emboldening of voices we need to hear.
Below we outline three aspects of our work ahead and we want your support to make them happen. We list them below along with a link to contribute.
1. Ecce’s Commissioning Program
This year, Ecce will commission five new works for solo instruments composed by professional and emerging composers who either embody, or can effectively comment on, the current socio-political landscape, nationally and internationally. We will ask them to compose works for solo instrument so that in-person rehearsals can be avoided.
Members of Ecce will perform these works through the fall and we will professionally record each work, releasing it on video, complete with interviews and commentary from the commissioned composers and the performers. The professional and emerging voices we feature will help to elevate the broader international discussion around the significant issues facing us at this moment.
All patrons of commissioned and co-commissioned projects will be listed in all performance media.
Supporting a commission means you are contributing to the composers’ commissions, the performers' fees and the funds needed to professionally record the work for online release.
A fully-commissioned project is $6,000.
Contributions in other amounts go toward co-commissioned works.
2. Ecce’s Continuing Live Projects
Last year, we organized an international collaboration with musicians in Paris to take place in Boston in February, 2021. We are cautiously optimistic that this collaboration will still take place. We have planned events at Tufts University and in Boston and an encore event in New York. We have almost completely funded this event, but we still seek $5,000 to complete our project budget.
In March, we planned a concert in New York that featured what would have been a world premiere of a new work by composer Philippe Leroux. In recognition of the time and energy our performing artists had already spent on preparing for the work, we provided them with honorariums. We plan to perform this event as soon as it is safe to do so and we have tentatively scheduled a May 2021 performance date.
3. General Operating Support
Although we are a lean non-profit and almost all our funds go to artists, our part-time administrative team costs about $10,000 a year to fund. Consider helping us to continue to pay our part time employees.
Ecce is a 501(c)3 and all contributions are tax deductible.
